Airline fined $2 million for flight delays

In a statement from the Department, it was reported that JetBlue was penalized due to "chronic flight delays."

The statement noted that JetBlue was fined $2 million for operating numerous delayed flights, marking the first time the Department of Transportation has issued a fine to an airline specifically for delays.

The statement noted that half of the fine will be paid as compensation to customers affected by the company's delays.

Describing unrealistic flight scheduling as an unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive practice that disrupts passengers' travel plans, fails to provide them with reliable information, and leads airlines to mislead consumers to win business from competitors, the statement reported that JetBlue operated 4 "chronically delayed" flights at least 145 times between June 2022 and November 2023.

The statement also indicated that the Department's investigations into other airlines regarding unrealistic flight scheduling are ongoing.
