Alarming UN report: Approximately 235,000 people have crossed from Lebanon into Syria amid Israeli attacks

Following the attacks that resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Israel continues to target Lebanon today.

Israeli warplanes conducted intense airstrikes on Beirut's Dahiyeh district and the city of Tyre in the early hours of the morning.

As Israel's heavy bombardment continues, many people have lost their lives and sustained injuries.

ASSESSING THE CURRENT SITUATION

Mathieu Luciano, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Lebanon Office, provided an online assessment during the weekly press briefing at the UN Office in Geneva.

235,000 PEOPLE CROSSED INTO SYRIA

Stating that approximately 235,000 people crossed into Syria by land between September 23 and October 3, Luciano noted that 152,000 of these individuals were Syrian and 82,000 were Lebanese.

Luciano also indicated that during the same period, 50,000 people left the country using Beirut Airport, and 1,060 people departed by sea.

1,411 PEOPLE KILLED IN ISRAEL'S INTENSIFYING ATTACKS IN LEBANON

The Israeli army, which has been engaged in controlled clashes with Hezbollah since October 8, 2023, launched hundreds of airstrikes on September 23 targeting southern Lebanese cities as well as the Bekaa and Baalbek regions.

According to Lebanese authorities, a total of 1,411 people, including 104 children and 194 women, have been killed since September 17, when communication devices used by Hezbollah were detonated.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in airstrikes conducted by the Israeli army on Beirut on September 27.

RETALIATION WITH MISSILES AND ROCKETS

Hezbollah is responding to Israel with rockets and missiles. No major damage has been reported in these attacks, which mostly target military bases on the Israeli side.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced within the country due to Israeli bombardment.

While the wave of migration from the southern parts of the country toward the capital, Beirut, and the north continues, it is reported that tens of thousands of people have migrated to Syria.
