Alcoholic beverages in sachets and PET bottles banned in Nigeria

Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), stated in a press release that the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets and PET bottles have been banned in the country.

Adeyeye said the ban is based on the recommendation of a high-powered committee consisting of the Federal Ministry of Health and other health sector stakeholders.

TO BE HANDED OVER TO AUTHORIZED INSTITUTIONS FOR DESTRUCTION

Stating that the ban has taken effect as of this month, Adeyeye said, "I would also like to inform you that NAFDAC has begun enforcement activities to ensure the implementation of this policy."

Adeyeye called for the banned products to be handed over to authorized institutions for destruction.

The Nigerian government had previously banned the sale and production of beverages with an alcohol content of over 30 percent in the country in January 2023.
