Aliyev and Trump hold phone call

According to a statement released by the Azerbaijani Presidency, US President Donald Trump called Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev.

During the conversation, the parties expressed their satisfaction on the occasion of the anniversary of the Washington Peace Summit, emphasizing that the Joint Declaration signed under Trump's leadership and the initialing of the agreement on the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia ended the conflict in the region and established peace. Aliyev conveyed his thanks to Donald Trump for hosting the Washington Peace Summit and for his contributions to the peace agenda.

Trump also expressed his appreciation for President Aliyev's role in the peace process. During the call, it was noted with satisfaction that peace and stability have been maintained in the region over the past year and that no incidents that could harm peace in the region have occurred. At the same time, the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of cargo to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, and the commencement of trade relations between the two countries were noted as positive developments.

The importance of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (Zangezur Corridor) project in terms of regional connectivity was emphasized during the meeting, and it was noted that the transport infrastructure works on Azerbaijani territory are in the completion phase. It was stated that work within the scope of the TRIPP project on Armenian territory is expected to begin in the near future.

Bilateral relations were also discussed

Aliyev and Trump also discussed issues on the bilateral agenda. The signing of the document on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the US was described as a "historic event," and it was emphasized that Azerbaijan-US relations have reached a qualitatively new and high level, possess a strategic character, and contribute to peace and stability in a wide region. Aliyev thanked the US President for the invitation to the G20.

In the remainder of the conversation, confidence was expressed that the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership relations will continue to develop successfully in the future.
