Allegations that Trump refused to sign G7 draft declaration

G7 leaders gathered in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada. Reports in the U.S. press alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump refused to sign a draft declaration prepared under the leadership of European leaders at the G7 Summit.

It was stated that the draft declaration included a call to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as statements affirming Israel's right to defend itself and asserting that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons.

Responding to a question regarding what approach U.S. President Donald Trump would take on the declaration, a White House official stated, "Under the strong leadership demonstrated by President Trump, the U.S. has begun to lead efforts toward the restoration of peace across the globe. President Trump will continue to work to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons."

It was claimed that Trump's decision not to sign the joint declaration caused a rift among the leaders attending the summit. In a statement to reporters in Canada today, Trump defended Israel and said that Iran would not win this conflict. Trump had called on Iran to return to negotiations "before it is too late."
