Another country recognizes Palestine as a state

The Barbados government has decided to recognize Palestine as a state.

Barbados Minister of Foreign Affairs Kerrie Symmonds stated in an announcement that they have decided to recognize Palestine as a state.

"WE WERE ACTING INCONSISTENTLY ON THIS ISSUE"

Criticizing his country's failure to recognize Palestine as a state until now and emphasizing that it was time to correct this mistake, Symmonds said, "We have always advocated for a two-state solution to the conflict at the United Nations (UN). However, despite telling the world this, ironically, we were not recognizing Palestine as a state. There was an inconsistency. How could we demand a two-state solution while not recognizing Palestine as a state?"

"IT WILL NOT AFFECT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL"

On the other hand, Symmonds also stated that the decision to recognize Palestine as a state would not affect Barbados' relations with Israel.

"THANK YOU BARBADOS"

The Palestinian mission to the UN stated that they welcomed the decision made by Barbados, using the phrase "Thank you Barbados" on X.

Barbados has become the 140th country out of 193 UN member states to recognize Palestine as a state, and the 11th country within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to do so.
