Arctic warning from Russia to NATO: Zakharova says they are ready to use military-technical means

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova made harsh statements regarding NATO's military mobility in the Arctic region. Zakharova argued that the alliance's activities in the region pose a "direct threat" to Moscow.

Speaking at her weekly press conference in Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic in Russia, Zakharova claimed that the Arctic has become one of the centers of the geopolitical struggle between Russia and the West.

Stating that NATO countries are taking steps toward achieving military superiority in the Arctic, Zakharova alleged that extensive military preparations are being made in regions close to Russia's northern borders.

Arguing that NATO's exercises and plans to increase military capacity indicate a shift in the alliance's approach, Zakharova said, "NATO's plans to increase its military capacity indicate a transition from limited deterrence to a stage of preparation for a potentially long-term conflict with Russia."

'RUSSIA IS READY TO USE THEM'

The Russian spokesperson emphasized that Moscow has the capacity to respond to developments it considers threats, stating, "Russia is ready to use all its military-technical means to eliminate threats if necessary."

In her statement, Zakharova also targeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Claiming that Zelenskyy has made threats against Russian civil aviation, Zakharova characterized these statements as "blackmail and the legitimization of air terrorism at the state level."

Zakharova also touched upon Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's assessment that returning to the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement is unacceptable.
