During the US presidential debate held the other day, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated that illegal immigrants are eating pets. According to the claims, illegal immigrants are kidnapping and eating pets. Furthermore, some Americans who claimed to have seen illegal immigrants taking cats and dogs living on the streets to 'eat' them brought these allegations to the fore during a live broadcast on a television channel.

The claim first surfaced during a live broadcast on the ABC News TV channel. During an interview conducted by an ABC reporter with Americans regarding the presidential race, numerous people stated that immigrants were eating cats and dogs.

In the interview conducted in Springfield, Ohio, neighborhood residents stated that stray animals and some pets had 'gone missing.' Those participating in the interview claimed that this situation was occurring because illegal immigrants were 'eating' the pets. Stating that their expectation from politicians is for immigrants to be expelled from the country and that they support Trump, the residents had an argument with the ABC News reporter during the broadcast.

Springfield is known as an electoral district that provides strong support for Trump.

The people voicing the claims did not allege that they had directly witnessed an incident, but said they had 'noticed that the animals were missing.'

On the other hand, the ABC News reporter emphasized that there is no concrete evidence regarding the claims.

Following the events that took place during the ABC News broadcast, Donald Trump brought up the allegations that immigrants were eating stray animals during the presidential debate, arguing that this was true.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, rather than responding to Trump's claims during the debate, chose to brush them off by, in the interpretation of the US media, 'casting disparaging looks.'
