In Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, large groups gathered in front of the congress to protest the "omnibus bill" the government is attempting to pass.

Police, who surrounded the area where the demonstrators were located, also increased security measures around the congress.

Unions argue that the government intends to eliminate strikes and labor rights as part of its austerity policies.

Emphasizing that they will 'absolutely' not make their existing social rights a subject of negotiation, the unions state that they may intensify their actions.

VOTING PROCESS CONTINUES

The voting process in the Chamber of Deputies for the omnibus bill, which the government calls the 'Decree of Necessity and Urgency', is ongoing.

President Javier Milei had previously stated in his remarks that the country is going through a "difficult" period economically and announced that radical decisions would be taken.

Insisting that he will cut public spending, Milei had expressed that he would reduce social support expenditures and that loss-making public institutions would be privatized.
