Armed attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico

Slovakia's populist Prime Minister Robert Fico was wounded in an armed attack and taken to the hospital. According to the television channel TA3, the incident occurred in the town of Handlova, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of the capital. A spokesperson for the Slovak Ministry of Interior said, "I can confirm that an assassination attempt on the Prime Minister has been carried out," but did not provide detailed information about the Prime Minister's condition.

ASSAILANT UNDER INVESTIGATION

According to the Slovak media outlet TV Joj, it has emerged that the person who shot Robert Fico is a native of the Slovak city of Levice. Law enforcement agencies are investigating this individual.

The incident took place in front of the local House of Culture, where Fico had arrived to meet with his supporters. Police have cordoned off the scene. According to a reporter for the daily newspaper Dennik N, rescue teams carried the Prime Minister into a car following the sound of gunfire.

According to the Reuters news agency, many people heard the gun go off. Several people witnessed the attacker being arrested by security forces. The attacker was driven away from the scene in a car.
