Armed attack on US military base: 5 soldiers shot

An armed attack took place at the Fort Stewart military base in the US state of Georgia.

In a statement issued by the Fort Stewart administration, it was stated that the base was closed to entry and exit following the incident, which occurred at 11:04 local time, and that there were casualties.

The statement, which noted that law enforcement was quickly dispatched to the area, indicated that the attack took place in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.

The Fort Stewart Administration later released a new statement, confirming that 5 soldiers were shot in the armed attack, and reported that the soldiers received initial medical intervention at the scene and were transported to the hospital.

Stating that there is no active threat to the community, the Administration noted that law enforcement has apprehended the attacker. No details were provided regarding the health status of the soldiers.

It was stated that the investigation into the attack is ongoing and that no additional information will be shared until the investigation is completed.
