Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan: 'We must stop the search for a ’historical Armenia’'

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, while responding to questions from deputies in the Armenian National Assembly, also made statements regarding the country's disputed borders.

Recalling the border disputes with Azerbaijan during the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Pashinyan noted that a commission established in 1988 had conducted border work, but these borders never achieved legal status.

Stating that the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia were legally defined when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Pashinyan said, "In 1991, there were legal borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and we have worked on these borders today. We have also presented the legal justifications for those borders. We have become certain of Armenia's legal borders.”

''WE ARE SEARCHING FOR A HOMELAND WITHIN A HOMELAND''

Stating that border disputes continued even after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Pashinyan said, “We are searching for a homeland within a homeland. Now, our political message is this: Dear citizens, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia. We must stop the search for a ’historical Armenia’ because we have found this motherland. This motherland is the Republic of Armenia, which includes 29 thousand 743 square kilometers of sovereign territory,” emphasizing that they must accept the internationally recognized legal borders.
