Assad's first statement on the clashes in Syria: Emphasis on territorial integrity
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has made statements as the advance of jihadist groups, led by HTS, continues in Syria. Assad stated, "Syria will continue to defend its territorial integrity against terrorists and their supporters."
The advance of jihadist groups, primarily Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which are clashing with the Syrian army, continues. The groups, which have captured a large part of Aleppo and Idlib, have also entered Hama.
As tensions rise in the region, a statement from the Syrian Presidency Office reported that Syrian President Assad held a phone call with his UAE counterpart, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the meeting, where the events in Syria were discussed, Assad emphasized 'stability' in his country.
"WILL CONTINUE TO DEFEND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY"
Assad used the following expressions during the meeting:
"Syria will continue to defend its stability and territorial integrity against all terrorists and their supporters.
With the help of its allies and friends, Syria has the ability to defeat and eliminate them, no matter how intense the attacks may be."
It was also stated that the UAE leader expressed to Assad that his country stands with the Syrian state.
HE MET WITH IRAQI PRIME MINISTER SUDANI
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
In a statement made by the Syrian Presidency, it was noted that Assad and Sudani discussed the latest developments in the region. The statement said, “Sudani emphasized that the security of Syria and Iraq is shared.”
According to the statement, Sudani indicated during the meeting that “Iraq is ready to provide all necessary support to Syria in the fight against terrorism.” In the meeting, where the latest developments in Syria, joint cooperation in the fight against terrorism, and regional issues were discussed, Sudani once again emphasized his commitment to Syria's stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
