Astronomers discover new moons: First discovery in 20 years
Astronomers have announced the discovery of three new moons in the Solar System.

Astronomers from the Carnegie Institution for Science have discovered one moon orbiting Uranus and two moons orbiting Neptune in their research.
Scott Sheppard, one of the astronomers who made the discovery, stated in his announcement, "The three newly discovered moons are the faintest ever found around these two ice giant planets using ground-based telescopes. Uncovering such faint objects required special image processing technology."
The discoveries will assist in future missions that may be planned to explore Uranus and Neptune in more detail.
The moon discovered orbiting Uranus is 8 kilometers in diameter and is the smallest moon discovered around the planet to date. In accordance with the tradition of naming Uranus's moons after literary characters, the newly discovered moon will be named after one of Shakespeare's characters. This discovery is the first of its kind in the field of discovering faint moons in 20 years.
