Autopsy report released for child who died after eating spicy chip

The autopsy report for 10th-grade student Harris Wolobah, who died suddenly last year in the US state of Massachusetts after participating in a 'spicy tortilla chip challenge' he saw on social media, has been released.

According to the report, Wolobah, who fell ill shortly after eating the highly spicy chip produced by the company Paqui, died as a result of "cardiopulmonary arrest in the setting of recent ingestion of food substance with high capsaicin concentration (the active component of hot peppers)."

It was also noted that the child had an enlarged heart and a congenital heart defect.

DOZENS OF CHILDREN HAD BEEN HOSPITALIZED

Meanwhile, the manufacturer Paqui had asked consumers in the "challenge" it launched on social media to share videos of themselves eating the product, which was made from two of the world's hottest peppers, and to refrain from drinking water after consuming it.

Dozens of children who participated in this "challenge," which was widespread across the US, had been hospitalized.

Warnings are being issued to children and young people against this extremely spicy product.
