Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi laid to rest: She was killed by Israeli soldiers

In the Didim district of Aydın, prayers were held and a final farewell was bid at the family home for Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank.

Eygi's body, which was received from Didim State Hospital, was brought to her family home in the Altınkum neighborhood.

During this time, Eygi's father Mehmet Suat Eygi, her husband of Pakistani origin Hamid Mazhar Ali, and her relatives were accompanied by the Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş.

Following the prayers held there, the funeral was taken to the Didim Central Mosque.

After the final farewell, citizens gathered in front of the house chanted slogans of 'Down with Israel'.

Meanwhile, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu, who visited her father before the final farewell, also conveyed his condolences.

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi's funeral was laid to rest following the funeral prayer held at noon at the Didim Central Mosque.

SHE WAS KILLED IN THE WEST BANK

Israeli soldiers opened fire on participants during a peaceful demonstration in the occupied West Bank, and Eygi, who was participating in the demonstration to support Palestinians and also held US citizenship, was shot in the head and critically wounded.

Eygi, who was taken to a hospital belonging to Palestinians, passed away on September 6.

Following procedures carried out by Turkey's Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Consulate General in Jerusalem, Eygi's body was brought from Tel Aviv to Baku and was received with ceremonies in the country yesterday.

Eygi's body had been brought to her hometown of Didim in Aydın following forensic medical procedures in İzmir.

Eygi was a human rights activist and a volunteer for the International Solidarity Movement, which supports Palestinians against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands through peaceful and civil methods.

US citizen Rachel Corrie, who was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003, was also a member of the same movement.
