Barrier for migrants from Finland

The country's border authorities made a statement regarding the issue following Finland's decision to close its border with Russia.

In the statement, it was reported that border guards and soldiers have begun installing concrete barriers with barbed wire at some of Finland's border points with Russia.

It was noted that the barriers placed on the border were installed on the grounds of "preventing the flow of undocumented migrants and ensuring the security of legal border traffic."

THE BORDER GATE ISSUE

Finland had decided to close 4 border gates with Russia over the weekend, citing the need to prevent the flow of "third-country nationals." It was reported that the decision in question would remain in effect until February 18, 2024.

There have been reports in the Finnish press that a decision will be made to close the remaining border gates with Russia as well.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated in his remarks on the matter today, "This deeply concerns us. Because we had very good, pragmatic, and mutually respectful relations with Finland. Unfortunately, these relations have been replaced by an anti-Russian approach."

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko also stated that Finland's decision to close its border gates with Russia would be against its own national interests.
