Biden: Costs resulting from the fire will be covered for 6 months
U.S. President Joe Biden announced that they are working to bring the 3 major fires continuing in Los Angeles under control and that they will cover all costs caused by the fires for 6 months.
U.S. President Biden held a joint press conference at the White House with other officials regarding the efforts to combat the fires in Los Angeles.
Stating that they have mobilized all their resources to fight the fires, Biden noted that in this context, the federal government has increased the rate of covering the costs caused by the disaster to 100 percent.
Biden stated, "Today, I am announcing that the federal government will cover 100 percent of the costs (arising from the fire) for 180 days. The costs of debris and hazardous material removal, temporary shelters, first responders, salaries to be paid, and other measures will be covered."
FIRE CONTINUES
Biden reported that small fires in more than 50 locations have been suppressed, but 3 major fires are continuing in Los Angeles and that the fires are growing in some places due to the wind.
Stating that the fire in the Hollywood Hills area has also been brought under control, the U.S. President said that the fires in the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst areas are continuing and that efforts are ongoing.
Biden also noted that power lines were cut due to the fires and that water pumps were not working because they were not receiving power, but that officials have begun pumping water again by delivering electricity to the necessary locations via generators.
ADDITIONAL FIREFIGHTERS AND FIRE-FIGHTING AIRCRAFT
Stating that they have directed an additional 400 firefighters, over 30 fire-fighting helicopters and aircraft, and 8 C-130 military aircraft belonging to the Department of Defense to the region, Biden also announced that they have procured additional fire-fighting aircraft from Canada.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who spoke later, expressed that many insurance companies are canceling people's insurance policies and that this situation will create serious distress for families damaged by the disaster.
Harris stated that even though they are not in the fire season, large-scale fires of this magnitude once again reveal how real "climate change" is.
5 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
In Los Angeles, officials had announced that a forest fire that broke out in one of the city's luxury neighborhoods is continuing in 6 areas and that 5 people have lost their lives so far.
Los Angeles Fire Department officials had stated that one of the most destructive fires in the city's history is being experienced and that nearly 2,000 homes have been completely burned so far.
It was reported that the fire, for which state officials issued evacuation orders for approximately 100,000 people, had also spread to the Hollywood area, and that many celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, and Cary Elwes had also lost their homes.
It was reported that all schools in the region were closed due to the fire.
