Biden: It will not be Putin, but Ukraine that emerges victorious from this war
In a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Joe Biden issued a warning to Russia, stating, "It is clear that Putin will not emerge victorious from this war; Ukraine will."
US President Biden hosted British Prime Minister Starmer at the White House, where the two leaders met to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, the situation in the Middle East, and issues in the Indo-Pacific region.
The meeting, held in the shadow of debates over whether to lift restrictions on the use of long-range missiles provided by the US to Ukraine against Russian territory, saw both leaders reaffirm their full support for Ukraine while issuing a warning to Moscow.
Making a brief statement to the press before the meeting, Biden said, "As Ukraine works to defend itself against Russian aggression, the US, along with the UK, has supported Ukraine." He added, "It is clear that Putin will not emerge victorious from this war; Ukraine will."
When asked for his reaction to Putin's remarks regarding the "possibility of a direct conflict between the US and Russia," Biden replied, "I don't think much about Vladimir Putin."
Stating that they would also discuss a potential ceasefire process while Israel's attacks on Gaza continue, the US President said, "We will also discuss our efforts regarding an agreement that would ensure the release of hostages held by Hamas in the Middle East, the establishment of an immediate ceasefire, and an increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza."
Noting that they would also discuss the latest situation in the Indo-Pacific region, Biden sent a message that they are cooperating with their allies against China's activities in the region, without naming the country directly.
