Biden says he expects Iran to retaliate against Israel 'sooner or later'
US President Joe Biden stated that Iran's retaliation against Israel, which struck the consulate building within the embassy compound in Syria on April 1, could happen "sooner or later."
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Biden was asked about a potential Iranian attack on Israel.
When asked how soon Iran might attack Israel, Biden replied, "I don't want to get into secure information, but my expectation is sooner or later."
Warning Iran against attacking Israel, Biden said, "We are devoted to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel, and Iran will not succeed."
Israel carried out an airstrike on April 1 against the consulate building located within the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus. A total of 7 people, including 2 generals from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, were killed in the attack.
Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus meant an attack on his country's territory, adding, "The evil regime made a mistake, and it should be punished and will be punished."
US President Joe Biden had also previously stated that they would continue to provide "ironclad" support to Tel Aviv in the face of Iran's threats of attack against Israel.
