Following the victory of pro-independence candidate Lai Ching-te in the elections in Taiwan, which is in a sovereignty dispute with China, Biden said, "We do not support Taiwan's independence."
CONGRATULATIONS FROM BLINKEN
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Lai Ching-te, who achieved victory according to the initial results following the elections. Blinken stated that the US is committed to maintaining peace and stability across the strait and to resolving differences through peaceful means.
Blinken also expressed that the US looks forward to working with Lai and all party leaders in Taiwan to advance their long-standing unofficial relationship, consistent with the US one-China policy.
