Biden's son's law license suspended
Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals announced that she has suspended the license of Hunter Biden, who was found guilty of purchasing a firearm while addicted to drugs, to practice law in Washington, D.C.
In a written statement, it was noted, "The respondent is hereby suspended from the practice of law in the District of Columbia pending final disposition of this proceeding."
Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby's decision follows the conviction of the younger Biden by a federal jury in Delaware on federal gun charges.
Hunter Biden, a graduate of Yale Law School, has held a license to practice law in the capital, Washington, since 2007, although he has not actively used his law degree.
Federal law in the U.S. prohibits anyone who uses controlled substances (drugs) improperly from purchasing or possessing a firearm.
BIDEN HAD DENIED THE CHARGES
Hunter Biden was accused of illegally acquiring a firearm in 2018 while he was addicted to drugs, violating federal laws by making false statements regarding his drug use during the purchase process, and possessing the weapon unlawfully.
Special Counsel David Weiss, appointed by the Department of Justice to investigate the allegations against Biden, had brought the charges last year. Biden had denied all the charges against him.
With the start of Hunter Biden's trial, it marked the first time in U.S. history that the son of a sitting president has appeared in court due to charges against him.
Political observers had assessed that Hunter Biden's trial and a potential guilty verdict could negatively impact his father, Joe Biden, at the ballot box in the presidential election to be held on November 5.
At the sentencing hearing held in court in the state of Delaware on June 11, where he was declared guilty, the judge has the authority to impose a prison sentence of up to 25 years, while factors such as this being a first-time offense provide the possibility of a reduced sentence.
