The U.S. Department of State emphasized that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that "the U.S. and other world leaders" would stand behind the proposal for the release of hostages and an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The U.S. Department of State has issued a statement regarding the meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel, marking Blinken's 8th visit since October 7.
In the statement released by the Department, it was reported that Blinken and Netanyahu discussed the ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip, which was announced by U.S. President Joe Biden.
The Department stated, "The Secretary reiterated that the United States and other world leaders will stand behind the comprehensive proposal outlined by President Biden that would lead to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian assistance for distribution throughout Gaza."
Noting that Blinken underscored the United States' unwavering commitment to Israel's security, the Department reported that Blinken reiterated to Netanyahu that the proposal would create the possibility of calm along Israel's northern border and further integration with countries in the region.
Stating that Secretary Blinken informed Netanyahu about ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding the new period that will begin after the attacks on the Gaza Strip end, the Department announced that Blinken emphasized that these efforts would provide long-term peace, security, and stability for both Israelis and Palestinians, and also stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from spreading across the region.
