Blinken: Netanyahu has accepted the ceasefire proposal formula

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who concluded his meetings in Israel, held a press conference. Stating that he is in the region to ensure the success of diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Blinken expressed that the latest ceasefire proposal takes Israel's security interests into account.

Stating that he held a “very constructive meeting” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Blinken announced that Netanyahu has accepted the proposal presented by the U.S. last week during negotiations in Doha, Qatar, aimed at finding a ceasefire formula that both Israel and Hamas can accept. Arguing that Hamas must also accept this proposal just as Israel has, Blinken said, “It is now Hamas's duty to do the same.”

Stating that the parties must come together to complete the process of reaching a clear understanding on how to implement the commitments they have made under this agreement, Blinken said, “The next important step is for Hamas to say yes.”

Stating that he has asked the Israeli administration to take action against Jewish settlers attacking Palestinians in the West Bank, Blinken said, “We expect action to be taken to prevent such violence and for those responsible to be held accountable.”

Following his meetings in Israel, Blinken will visit Egypt and Qatar to discuss ongoing efforts regarding ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
