Blinken engages in telephone diplomacy amid Israel-Iran tensions
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the latest situation regarding Israel-Iran tensions with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as well as the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the UK, conveying the message that the US does not want to see an escalation of tension in the region.
US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller issued a written statement regarding Secretary Blinken's phone calls.
Accordingly, Blinken thanked Foreign Minister Fidan for Turkey's efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and underscored the US commitment to Israel's security.
Evaluating the latest situation in the Israel-Iran tensions during his phone calls with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the UK, Blinken conveyed the message to his counterparts that "the US is not seeking further tension in the region."
Stating that the US is sensitive regarding Israel's security, Blinken emphasized that they will remain in close coordination with countries in the region regarding the process moving forward.
