Bloody execution in the middle of the street: Ukrainian politician falls victim to assassination

Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy has lost his life as a result of an assassination carried out in Lviv. The news was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy said, “Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported the details of the horrific murder that took place in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy has been killed. I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones.”

The President also emphasized that security forces are working intensively to find the perpetrators of the attack.

APPROACHED ON A MOTORCYCLE AND OPENED FIRE

While the investigation into the incident continues, authorities announced that the public will be kept informed. Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker approached Parubiy on a motorcycle, shot him in the head, and fled the scene.

HAD PREVIOUSLY SURVIVED AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Parubiy had narrowly escaped a similar attack in 2014. At that time, an officer from the State Security Administration (UDO) who was preparing for an assassination attempt planned during the Yanukovych era had been uncovered.

WHO IS ANDRIY PARUBIY?

Born in 1971, Andriy Parubiy is known as one of the influential figures in Ukrainian politics. Serving as the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) between 2016 and 2019, Parubiy began his career as a historian and political scientist.

Parubiy stood out particularly for his role in the 2004 Orange Revolution and the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests. An advocate for pro-European policies, Parubiy also held active roles in the fields of security and national defense. Known for his nationalist identity, Parubiy was at the forefront of Ukraine's democratization process.
