Breaking News: Israel has launched a ground operation in Gaza! 'Trump supports it'
The US press reported that Israel has begun a ground operation for a full-scale occupation in Gaza.
According to a report by the US-based Axios, citing Israeli officials, the Israeli army has entered the center of Gaza with tanks. This development occurred immediately following US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to Israel.
Israeli officials speaking to Axios stated that US President Trump supports the operation but wants it to be completed as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Palestinians speaking to the French news agency AFP reported that intense bombardment has begun in the region. Israeli media also reported that the explosions in Gaza were heard even from Tel Aviv.
NETANYAHU'S OCCUPATION PLAN
The Israeli government had accepted a plan envisioning the gradual occupation of Gaza on August 8, upon the proposal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Prior to the ground operation, the Israeli army had targeted and destroyed numerous buildings allegedly used by Hamas. High-rise structures, in particular, were among the most intense targets of the bombardment.
SHARP REACTION FROM HOSTAGE FAMILIES
Following the intensification of airstrikes on Gaza, a written statement was issued by the platform formed by the relatives of the captives.
The statement included the following remarks:
"We are deeply concerned by reports that intense attacks on Gaza have begun this evening. This could be the 710th night in Gaza, the last night for the captives who have managed to survive. It could also be the last night for their bodies to be found and buried."
The statement, which pointed out that the hostages are still alive in Gaza, emphasized that Netanyahu has "chosen to consciously sacrifice" the captives for the sake of political calculations. Furthermore, it was stated that Netanyahu is directly responsible for the safety of the Israeli captives, and it was noted that the Israeli people will never forgive this loss.
