Brigadier General Cahit İrican appointed as Deputy Commander of NATO's Kosovo Force
Brigadier General Cahit İrican has taken over as Deputy Commander of NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR) at a ceremony held in the capital, Pristina.
According to a statement from KFOR, a handover ceremony for the deputy command was held at the multinational peacekeeping force's main headquarters in the capital, Pristina.
At the ceremony, the position of KFOR Deputy Commander was transferred from Italian Brigadier General Federico Bernacca to Brigadier General Cahit İrican.
KFOR Commander Major General Enrico Barduani wished Brigadier General İrican success in his new role.
KFOR, which began its mission in Kosovo on June 12, 1999, in accordance with a United Nations Security Council resolution to ensure security and stability, consists of approximately 4 thousand 500 international military personnel from 29 NATO and non-NATO countries.
Turkish troops have been serving within KFOR in Kosovo since 1999. Turkey held the command of KFOR for the first time between October 10, 2023, and October 11, 2024.
