British company submits offer to sell Eurofighter to Turkey: Ministry of National Defense sets 'Meteor' condition

It has been stated that the proposal prepared by the UK-based BAE Systems regarding Turkey's process of purchasing 40 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft and Meteor missiles has reached the Ministry of National Defense. It is alleged that the ministry wants to include the export of Meteor missiles in the proposal submitted for the Eurofighter sale.

The Ministry of National Defense previously announced that it had sent the Requirement Definition Document prepared for the procurement of the aircraft to the UK Ministry of Defence and BAE Systems. It was stated that the proposal was finally completed by BAE Systems and submitted to Turkish authorities. Ministry sources confirmed that the evaluation process for the technical and financial details of the proposal has begun.

UK Secretary of State for Defence John Healey arrived in Ankara at the invitation of Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler. It is suggested that the meeting between the two ministers will address the Russia-Ukraine war as well as the Eurofighter Typhoon procurement process.

TURKEY SETS CONDITION FOR THE PROPOSAL

The MSB was planning to purchase a total of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 4 fighter jets in a 20+20 configuration. Tranche 4 is known as the most modern Typhoon configuration for air combat.

According to the claim, the purchase of the Meteor Air-to-Air Missile was also made a condition by Turkey in the agreement. It was learned that Greece had contacted France and the UK to stop the missile sale, but these requests did not find support.

It is alleged that if 40 Tranche 4 Typhoon aircraft are procured, the total cost of the project will be at least 5 billion euros. The Ministry of National Defense announced that it would form a committee to examine the proposal from financial and military perspectives. It was stated that the committee would make a final assessment on the aircraft and ammunition options. MSB sources indicated that if deemed necessary, a revision of the proposal would be requested.
