British intelligence: Russia has lost 500,000 troops in Ukraine
The UK's intelligence agency, GCHQ, has published a striking report regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to a report by BBC Turkish, the agency's Director, Anne Keast-Butler, announced that Russia may have lost approximately 500,000 troops since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
In her first major public speech, Keast-Butler stated that the war has turned into a 'very heavy human cost' for Russia. According to British intelligence, Moscow continues its attacks despite suffering heavy losses on the Ukrainian front.
'HYBRID WAR' ACCUSATION
Keast-Butler also accused the Kremlin not only for the war in Ukraine but also for its activities across Europe. The GCHQ Director claimed that Russia is targeting critical infrastructure, democratic processes, and supply chains, stating that this constitutes an 'undeclared hybrid war.'
According to a study conducted by the BBC Russian Service and the independent media outlet Mediazona using open-source data, the identities of more than 223,000 Russian soldiers confirmed to have lost their lives in Ukraine have been identified so far. Experts, however, assess that the actual number could be much higher.
