Call from Belgium, France, and Spain for the safety of the Sumud Flotilla

Officials from Belgium, France, Spain, and Finland have expressed their concerns and called on Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of those participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza, which was intercepted by Israeli forces.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated in a post on his social media accounts, "France calls on Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of the participants, guarantee their right to consular protection, and allow them to return to France as soon as possible."

It was also reported that teams from the French Consulate General in Tel Aviv are in contact with French citizens on the flotilla and are ready to provide consular assistance.

France encourages those participating in the flotilla to hand over the humanitarian aid they are carrying to humanitarian organizations in Gaza, so that the aid can be delivered safely.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said the following in a post on his X account:

His top priority is to ensure that the rights of Belgian citizens are respected, their safety is guaranteed, and that they can return home without hindrance as soon as possible.

The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs stated in a release, "In accordance with the Consular Services Act, it is in contact with Israeli authorities to assist its citizens and expects Israel to ensure the safety of those detained."

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said that Spain is closely monitoring the situation of the "peaceful and humanitarian aid flotilla."

The ministry stated that the Spanish Embassy in Israel and regional consulates are fully mobilized to provide diplomatic and consular support to the Spanish citizens on board the ship.
