Cancellation decision in the case regarding Maradona's death

The trial regarding the death of legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona has been cancelled by the court due to procedural irregularities. The fact that the presiding judge, Julieta Makintach, appeared in a documentary titled "Justicia Divina" (Divine Justice) while the judicial process was ongoing was deemed a violation of the principle of impartiality, leading to the invalidation of the trial process.

Presiding Judge Maximiliano Savarino stated in his announcement that Makintach's actions harmed the judicial process and expressed that the case must be retried with a new panel.

This decision was supported by prosecutors, the families of the victims, and defense attorneys. According to local media, the court's cancellation decision caused disappointment among Maradona's family and the public.

Maradona's daughters, Dalma and Giannina, were moved to tears in the courtroom, while his former girlfriend, Veronica Ojeda, emphasized that they would not give up their pursuit of justice.

In her statement, Dalma Maradona said, "It is very sad that the hearing is being postponed for two months due to one person's responsibility. This is complete injustice. The issue being discussed here is not whether it is legal to film a documentary, but that a judge allowed this during the court process."

MARADONA'S DEATH

Maradona, who is considered among the greatest players in football history, passed away on November 25, 2020, in the city of Tigre, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, due to "acute pulmonary edema secondary to chronic heart failure."

Following Maradona's death, an investigation was launched, and 7 suspects, including Maradona's neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and his psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, were charged with causing the legendary footballer's death.
