According to police statements, the clash broke out at 05:00 in the morning in the city of Tecpan de Galeana between two cartels attempting to seize control of the region. Local police were caught in the middle of the fighting. Two police officers were killed and four were injured. The Mexican Ministry of Defense also announced that 14 gang members were killed in the clash. Following the incident, 11 people were arrested. It was also stated that the National Guard intervened in the clash and three soldiers were injured.
In the Mexican state of Sinaloa, 19 cartel members were killed on Wednesday in a clash between a cartel and the army. On Thursday, a car bomb exploded in front of a local government office in the city of Acambaro, killing three police officers.
