Cause of German officers' wiretapping scandal revealed
Pistorius met with Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson at Karlberg Palace in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, where he had arrived for a series of visits. The two ministers held a press conference after the meeting. During the meeting, German Defense Minister Pistorius explained the cause of the German officers' wiretapping scandal.
Evaluating the publication in Russia of an audio recording of discussions among German air force officers regarding support for Ukraine, Pistorius stated, "It was an open phone call, and an error occurred when a general participating in the conference carelessly connected to a local internet network, which gave the Russians the opportunity to access it illegally. However, there is no weakness in our security system."
Arguing that the West must continue to fight for Ukraine, Pistorius commented, "(Russian President) Putin is afraid of our way of life, so he attacks it whenever he finds the opportunity. The West must continue its support for Ukraine, and we will continue to provide support."
"COOPERATION HAS BEEN DEEPENED"
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson also drew attention to the newly signed bilateral military cooperation agreement between Germany and Sweden, stating, "Cooperation between the two countries has been deepened in various areas, including technology, training, and military exercises."
Reminding that Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok approved Sweden's NATO membership today, Jonson noted that this decision would make Sweden safer and NATO stronger.
THE WIRETAPPING INCIDENT
Margarita Simonyan, Editor-in-Chief of Russia Today (RT), had published a 30-minute audio recording of German officers.
In the audio recording, high-ranking German Air Force personnel were discussing how Taurus missiles could be sent in the event of a political decision, and whether they could be used by Ukraine without Germany's intelligence and technical support.
The recording also included a discussion on whether Taurus missiles could technically destroy the Crimean Bridge, which Russia built on the Crimean Peninsula, which it illegally annexed.
