Ceasefire between India and Pakistan extended

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, which came into effect on May 10, has been extended until May 18, stating that the extension was reached as a result of meetings held between military delegations on May 14. Dar stated that political dialogue must take place between the two countries.

TENSIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES

The death of 26 civilians in a terrorist attack carried out on April 22 at a tourist spot in Pahalgam, in India's Jammu and Kashmir state, had increased tensions between India and Pakistan.

India had claimed that Pakistan played a role in the attack, while the Pakistani administration had denied the allegation. The Indian Armed Forces launched "Operation Sindoor" against Pakistan, announcing that it was targeting "terrorist infrastructure."

Pakistan, in response to India's attacks, had launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos. In the mutual attacks, 51 people lost their lives on the Pakistani side and 31 people on the Indian side.
