Central Bank official kidnapped in Libya: All operations halted
The Central Bank of Libya has temporarily suspended its operations due to the kidnapping of its Information Technology Director, Musab Muslim, and threats directed at officials.
The Central Bank of Libya announced that it has suspended all its operations following the kidnapping of its Information Technology Director, Musab Muslim, by unidentified individuals in front of his home this morning, and due to threats directed at certain officials.
In a statement, the bank condemned and rejected the acts of kidnapping and intimidation. The statement noted that all Central Bank operations would remain halted until the kidnapped official is released.
The Central Bank's statement did not provide details regarding the reason for Musab Muslim's kidnapping or the background of the incident. However, it is noteworthy that the event occurred after the House of Representatives issued a statement rejecting "attempts by certain individuals to seize" the Central Bank of Libya.
The House of Representatives had stated that these attempts were intended to begin with a raid on the bank's headquarters and aimed to remove Central Bank Governor Sadiq al-Kabir from office.
The Central Bank of Libya’s decision to halt operations is being viewed as a precautionary measure taken to ensure the security of the bank and the protection of its employees. No further information regarding the incident has been obtained yet.
