Chaos in London: Police carry out controlled explosions
The area was evacuated following an alarm caused by a suspicious vehicle on London's Regent Street, one of the busiest shopping districts in the UK. Bomb disposal teams dispatched to the scene carried out a series of controlled explosions for security reasons.
According to a report on Londragundem.net, the Metropolitan Police stated that after a detailed examination of the suspicious vehicle, it was determined that it did not contain any dangerous elements. It was reported that the situation was completely brought under control around 14:30 and that it “posed no threat.”
CONTROLLED EXPLOSIONS BY POLICE
Police sources stated that according to initial findings, the incident was not linked to terrorism. However, surrounding roads between Regent Street and New Burlington Street were closed for a period of time.
In a statement on the social media platform X, the police said, “Officers are on the scene to examine a suspicious vehicle. As a precaution, a number of controlled explosions have been carried out.”
CALL TO REPORT SUSPICIOUS SITUATIONS
In footage shared on social media during the incident, shoppers running in panic and a heavy police and emergency service presence in the area were notable.
This incident in the area brought to mind a similar controlled explosion incident carried out on a suspicious package at Euston train station in November.
Authorities reiterated their call for citizens to report any suspicious situations quickly.
