Chaos on the streets of Ireland

In the Irish capital of Dublin, five people, including three children, were injured and taken to the hospital following a knife attack in Parnell Square.

According to a report by Euronews, police sources stated that one girl is in serious condition, while the other two children have less severe injuries. Hospital sources also reported that the injured woman is in serious condition, while another injured man is in stable condition. 

IS IT A 'TERRORIST ATTACK'?

According to the state media outlet RTE, the police do not currently view the incident as a "terrorist attack." The police have classified the attack as a "serious public order incident."

ATTACKER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announced that a suspect has been taken into custody. Varadkar stated, "We are all shocked by what happened in Parnell Square. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. The facts are still emerging. The emergency services responded very quickly and were on the scene within minutes. A suspect has been detained by the police," he said. 

The Irish Times also reported that the main suspect has been detained and has injuries on his body believed to be self-inflicted. 

A police spokesperson stated that the police are investigating the "public order incident" and that no other individuals are currently being sought.

The incident occurred around 13:30 local time in front of a school in Parnell Square. Following the attack, the scene was cordoned off, and a large number of ambulances were dispatched to the area.

Following the events, the public took to the streets, and chaos ensued. Clashes broke out between the police and the public, and police vehicles were set on fire.
