In a statement from the Metropolitan Police, it was reported that 9 people, including 2 children, were injured in an attack carried out using a "corrosive substance" in Clapham, south London, by a perpetrator whose identity has not yet been determined.
The statement noted that 4 adults, including one woman, 2 children, and 3 police officers were taken to the hospital. It was stated that the police officers sustained minor injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Alexander Castle also stated in his announcement that the police are utilizing all resources to apprehend the attacker, adding, "We are continuing our work to determine what led to this horrific incident."
Castle reported that they believe a "corrosive substance" was used in the incident, but that tests to identify the substance are ongoing.
Reports in the national press noted that 3 of the injured were individuals who went to the scene to provide assistance.
London Assembly Member Marina Ahmad stated in a post on her social media account X that a man threw "acid" at people in a car involved in a traffic accident.
