China interferes with Canadian reconnaissance aircraft

It has been reported that Chinese fighter jets "interfered" with Canadian reconnaissance flights conducting surveillance on North Korea sanctions off the coast of the East China Sea.

According to a report by CBC News, Major-General Iain Huddleston, Commander of the 1st Canadian Air Division, as well as journalists, were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.

Regarding the "interference" by Chinese fighter jets with the Canadian reconnaissance flight monitoring oil sanctions against North Korea off the East China Sea, Huddleston stated, "We are completely in international airspace."

Describing the incident as "unprofessional and very aggressive," Huddleston said, "We can fly in close formation with other aircraft and be perfectly safe. But when an aircraft maneuvers aggressively close to others, it becomes a safety issue."

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair, in a statement to the press, described the incident as "dangerous and reckless" and remarked, "This behavior is never acceptable, and we will convey this to the People's Republic of China in the most appropriate manner."
