China reacts to US arrest warrant for Raul Castro

China has reacted to the arrest warrant issued in the US for former Cuban President Raul Modesto Castro Ruz. During a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that they oppose the abuse of legal measures to exert pressure on Cuba.

Mao noted that they have taken note of the statements by the Cuban President and Foreign Minister condemning the decision. Expressing that China supports Cuba in protecting its national sovereignty, Mao emphasized that they are against foreign interference.

Spokesperson Mao called on the US to immediately end its blockade and other coercive and oppressive practices against Cuba. Mao also stated that the Washington administration should not interfere with the Cuban people's right to life and development.

The Florida State Attorney's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an arrest warrant for Raul Castro on October 19 in connection with the downing of two unarmed "Brothers to the Rescue" civilian aircraft in international waters on February 24, 1996.
