Claim: Drafts submitted for US banknotes featuring Trump's portrait
It is alleged that the US administration is pressuring officials at relevant agencies to print new 250-dollar banknotes featuring the portrait of President Donald Trump, and that initial drafts have been submitted. If Trump's portrait is placed on the banknotes, it would mark the first time in US history that the image of a living person has been used on the US dollar.
According to a report by the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing unnamed US officials, initiatives for banknotes featuring Trump's portrait have accelerated.
According to the report, Undersecretary Brandon Beach and Senior Advisor Mike Brown, whom Trump appointed to the Treasury Department, are regularly pressuring the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to print new 250-dollar banknotes featuring Trump's portrait.
However, agency officials state that according to the relevant law, only the images of deceased individuals can be placed on banknotes, and therefore, using the portrait of a currently living president would also create legal issues.
If these efforts reach a conclusion and Trump's portrait is placed on the banknotes, it will be the first time in US history that the image of a living person has been used on the US dollar.
According to the report, Beach presented drafts of banknotes featuring Trump's portrait to bureau staff last August and September. In one of these drafts, President Trump's face appeared in the center of the 250-dollar banknote, between the signatures of the President and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
