According to reports in the Greek press, the Athens administration has placed a new negotiation process regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas with Egypt on its agenda.
It is claimed that the talks will focus on areas that were left outside the partial agreement signed between the two countries in 2020.
The reports alleged that the matter was discussed during a phone call between Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
FOLLOWING THE AGREEMENT SIGNED BY TURKEY...
It was stated that the meeting took place after the Libyan House of Representatives ratified the memorandum of understanding on maritime jurisdiction areas signed between Turkey and Libya in 2019.
According to information reflected in the Greek press, Athens and Cairo will now evaluate conducting negotiations for the region located east of the 28th meridian.
The area in question was not included in the scope of the 2020 partial agreement.
The agreement signed between Egypt and Greece in 2020 covered the maritime area between the 26th and 28th meridians.
To the east of the 28th meridian lies the island of Kastellorizo (Meis), which is frequently a subject of debate in the Eastern Mediterranean.
