Claim of agreement between Israel and Musk: 'Starlink cannot be operated without Israeli approval'

Israeli Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi announced that they have reached an agreement in principle with U.S. billionaire Elon Musk that the satellite internet system Starlink, which he owns, will not provide satellite internet to the blockaded Gaza Strip without the approval of Tel Aviv.

CLAIM OF AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE

Israeli Minister of Communications Karhi made a statement on the subject via the X social media platform.

In his statement, Karhi said, "Elon Musk, I congratulate you on reaching an important preliminary agreement with our Ministry of Communications. As a result, the Starlink satellite internet system cannot be operated in Israel without the approval of the Ministry of Communications. This includes the Gaza Strip."

Minister Karhi noted in his post that "this understanding is of vital importance while waging war against Hamas."

Musk, however, has not yet made a statement regarding the matter.

MUSK HAD ANNOUNCED HE WOULD PROVIDE CONNECTIVITY SERVICES WITH STARLINK

On October 18, Israel announced that they had begun negotiations with the SpaceX company, owned by Elon Musk, for the use of the Starlink satellite internet system.

Following Israel's complete cutoff of landline, mobile phone, and internet communication services in the blockaded Gaza Strip, hundreds of users on the X social media platform had requested that the Starlink satellite system be made available for humanitarian aid coordination.

Upon this, Musk announced in a statement on X on October 28 that his satellite internet system company, Starlink, would provide connectivity services to recognized international aid organizations in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi had reacted to the initiative by Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX, to provide internet to international aid organizations in the Gaza Strip, declaring that they would fight against the attempt to provide internet in Gaza.
