Claim that Netanyahu wants to change the date of the general election

According to a report by Israel's state broadcaster KAN, Netanyahu hopes to sign normalization agreements with Indonesia and Saudi Arabia before the elections, which he plans to move to June 2026.

It was noted that the chance of reaching an agreement with Saudi Arabia is "reasonable," while the possibility of reaching a similar agreement with Indonesia is "weak."

It was argued that Netanyahu is pursuing at least one success that would strengthen his hand in the elections.

In Israel, the government can dissolve parliament and call for early elections upon the prime minister's recommendation, but this decision must also be approved by the president.

According to the latest poll conducted by the Maariv newspaper, if the elections were held today, Netanyahu's party is expected to win 52 seats in parliament, the opposition party 58, and the Arab parties 10 seats.

According to Israeli law, the support of at least 61 members of the 120-member parliament is required to form a government. Under the normal election calendar in Israel, general elections are scheduled to be held in November 2026.
