Climate activists smash glass protecting Magna Carta with a hammer
Two climate activists, aged 82 and 85, smashed the glass case protecting the Magna Carta at the British Library in England with a hammer.
In London, the capital of England, two elderly climate activists smashed the glass case containing the Magna Carta, a document of universal importance for the rule of law, at the British Library.
Just Stop Oil members Sue Parfitt, 82, and Judy Bruce, 85, carried out the protest by breaking the glass enclosure housing the 13th-century document with a hammer and a chisel.
The pair then unfurled a banner that read, "The government is breaking the law."
The elderly women were stopped by security guards and subsequently taken into custody by the police.
'I HAVE TO DO THIS'
Parfitt, an 82-year-old doctor, stated, "I am a Christian and I had to do this."
It was reported that the Magna Carta document itself was not damaged during the protest.
