Colombian President Petro announces they will open an embassy in Palestine

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that he will open an embassy in Ramallah following his meetings with the Israeli and Palestinian ambassadors in Bogota.

In a post on his social media account X, Petro shared photos taken with Israeli Ambassador to Bogota Gali Dagan and Palestinian Ambassador to Bogota Raoulf Almalk.

"I EMPHASIZED SOLIDARITY WITH THE CHILDREN"

Stating that he would open an embassy in Ramallah after his meeting with the ambassadors, Petro said, "I expressed my position on reaching an international peace conference that will pave the way for two independent and free states. I emphasized my solidarity with Israeli and Palestinian children who deserve to live in peace and have those rights. We will send a plane carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. Colombia will open its embassy in Ramallah, Palestine."

SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE

In a statement on his X social media account on October 9, Petro criticized the way Israel responded to Hamas's attack.

Sharing photos of Palestinian children who lost their lives as a result of Israeli attacks on his social media account, Petro had used the expression, "The only way for Palestinian children to sleep in peace is for Israeli children to sleep in peace. The only way for Israeli children to sleep in peace is for Palestinian children to sleep in peace."
