Controversial Gaza proposal: 'It should be bombed like Hiroshima and Nagasaki'

U.S. Representative Tim Walberg argued that Gaza 'should be bombed like the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,' where atomic bombs were dropped during World War II.

According to a report by the American newspaper The Washington Post, Walberg was responding to a question about the temporary ports to be established for delivering humanitarian aid by sea to Gaza, which is under Israeli attacks, during an event he attended in the town of Dundee, Michigan.

Walberg stated that the U.S. should not engage in efforts such as building ports to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and should not 'spend a single cent' on the humanitarian aid to be sent.

Referring to the two cities in Japan where the U.S. dropped atomic bombs during World War II, Walberg stated that the same should be done for Gaza, saying, "It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over with quickly."

CAIR REACTS

The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) condemned Walberg for these remarks in a statement on its website.

CAIR-MI Director Dawud Walid stated that Walberg's words should be condemned by all Americans who value human life and international law.

Emphasizing that it is 'chilling' that a call which would lead to the loss of life of all people living in Gaza could be made so casually, Walid said, "This level of dehumanization of the Palestinian people is what leads to the continued slaughter and suffering we witness every day in Gaza and the West Bank."
