The Paris Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Marine Le Pen on the grounds that her 2022 election campaign was 'illegally financed.'
A judicial investigation has been launched in France into Marine Le Pen, the former leader of the National Rally (RN) and the party's current parliamentary group leader, on the grounds that her 2022 election campaign was "illegally financed."
According to a report by BFMTV citing judicial sources, the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into Le Pen over suspicions that her 2022 presidential campaign was "illegally financed."
As reported by AA, the decision to investigate was taken following a report prepared in April 2024 by the commission that examines candidates' campaign accounts, supported by invoices, during every election to check whether they have remained within the legal limits.
In the 2022 French presidential election, President Emmanuel Macron won the race in the second round against Le Pen with 58.55 percent of the vote.
