Criminal complaints filed against Israeli President Herzog
The Swiss Office of the Attorney General has announced that it has received multiple criminal complaints against Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who arrived in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in the town of Davos.
Criminal complaints have been filed against Israeli President Isaac Herzog. According to a report by the Bern Today newspaper, the complaints were forwarded to the Swiss Office of the Attorney General via the Bern cantonal police.
It was noted that numerous individual criminal complaints against Herzog were filed from the cantons of Bern, Geneva, and Zurich.
The prosecutor's office stated that the complaints will now be examined in accordance with standard procedure, while announcing that they are in contact with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to review the status of Herzog's immunity. The decision regarding Herzog's immunity will be made by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. When asked, the prosecutor's office did not provide a response regarding the specific nature of the accusations.
"WE HOPE AN INVESTIGATION WILL BE OPENED"
According to a report on the official Swiss news site Keystone-SDA, the criminal complaints were filed by a group called "Legal Action Against Crimes Against Humanity."
In a written statement, the group said, "We hope that a criminal investigation will be opened; such an investigation could be conducted in parallel with the proceedings before the International Criminal Court."
The group believes that Switzerland is obligated to conduct an investigation.
Switzerland has previously disregarded diplomatic immunity on several occasions, as was the case with former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.
The group argued that this should also apply to "Western criminals."
The World Economic Forum was held in Davos this year from January 15-19.
